In symbolism, the cross primarily represents an orientation in space, the intersection of left/right and above/below, and also depicts a human figure with outstretched arms. In dualistic systems it symbolizes the union of opposites and the totality of being. However, because of the belief in the resurrection of Christ, the cross became a symbol of eternal life among Christians.
